Saab & Tulmar Partner for Mobile Camouflage

News from Saab 30 May 2023

Canadian collaboration serves increased demand for Saab advanced camouflage systems

An agreement with Canada’s Tulmar Safety Systems will see production of Saab’s advanced camouflage create jobs and opportunity for Ontario’s skilled manufacturing sector.

In response to growing demand for camouflage solutions in North America, Saab will begin assembling its Mobile Camouflage Systems (MCS) at Tulmar Safety Systems in the city of Hawkesbury, Ontario. Under the agreement, Saab will provide the advanced multispectral material developed in Sweden to be tailored by Tulmar for a range of military vehicles used by customers globally.

“It’s not simply about expanding our capacity to produce advanced camouflage products, we needed a partner that maintains our high standard for product quality and upholds the equality and environmental values that are at the core of our business. said Henning Robach, Head of Business Unit Saab Barracuda. “This partnership will allow us to better serve our North American customers, and customers around the world, as we expand our overall production capacity”.

Tulmar has significant expertise in the manufacturing of protective textiles, including textiles for military vehicles. The new partnership will bring exciting opportunities for knowledge transfer between the two companies and countries.

“Our relationship with Saab pulls to our core strengths in engineering while providing new opportunities for Canadian industry” said Patrick Tallon, President and Chief Executive Officer at Tulmar Safety Systems. “We are already seeing the benefits of Swedish-Canadian collaboration as we prepare for MCS.”

Saab’s Barracuda Mobile Camouflage System (MCS) is the leading product for concealment of military vehicles. MCS helps armed forces effectively manage the electromagnetic signature of tanks, armoured personnel carriers and more using advanced blends of pigments, coatings and textiles to reduce detection. Solutions can be tailored to counter sensors looking for ultraviolet, visual, near infrared, short-wave infrared, thermal infrared and radar signatures.
