CADSI congratulates the new Liberal government

On behalf of our more than 700 member companies across Canada, CADSI congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada on their recent election victory.

Canada’s new government made ambitious commitments during the election campaign, including building up the Canadian defence industrial base and sovereign capacity, buying Canadian whenever possible, reforming the procurement system, and ensuring that the Canadian Armed Forces have the tools and resources required to defend Canada and its allies. Attention will now turn to implementation.

In his victory address, Prime Minister Carney acknowledged that his government would begin its new mandate at a “hinge moment of history,” when the world’s fortunes stand in the balance and we can no longer rely on our closest ally and trading partner. He called on Canadian businesses to support the large-scale investments needed to transform the economy, and he committed to strengthening global alliances with trusted partners. Canada’s defence industry can serve as an enabler for all these outcomes, if guided by clear policy and engaged through an institutionalized mechanism for dialogue that can build trust.

In electing a minority government, Canadians have also made it clear that they want to see all federal parties working together to confront this unprecedented moment. We urge political leaders to work collaboratively with one another – and with the private sector – to advance the much-needed reforms that will unlock the full potential of Canada’s defence industrial base.

Now is the moment for decisive action that galvanizes and unifies. Our industry stands ready.
