The Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) is seeking a high-performing Business Development Manager to join our small and mighty team located in downtown Ottawa. This exciting opportunity would allow an experienced business development professional to focus on a dynamic sector of the Canadian economy.

Your Mission

The successful candidate will report to the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. This position will require a wide range of skills, including business development, sales, communications skills, budgeting, and project management. This is a new role.

Your work will include:

  • Developing and implementing new programs that deliver value to members and sustainable revenues to CADSI.
  • Organizing existing and planned programs into a coordinated growth strategy that establishes short-, medium-, and long-term sales targets.
  • Promoting CADSI’s products and services that address or anticipate our members’ needs.
  • Improving CADSI’s market position by identifying, developing, defining, assessing, and maintaining business relationships that keep CADSI as the “go to” association for members and key stakeholders in defence, security, and cyber security.
  • Conducting research to identify evolving market and customer needs.
  • Managing and maintaining a multifaceted membership and business opportunity pipeline and quantifying an accurate value proposition for each.
  • Develop quotes and proposals for prospective members.
  • Building long-term relationships with new and existing members.
  • Working with the CADSI team to achieve corporate-wide key performance indicators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Experience and Qualifications

As a creative, ambitious, and resourceful individual, you will be able to market and communicate CADSI’s mission and interests and to connect with target audiences. Specifically, you will possess the following qualifications:

» Post-secondary degree in business, sales, communications, project management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience over a minimum of five years progressive experience.

  • Delivered and implemented business development, sales, and project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities with challenging deadlines.
  • Experience in marketing and communications content creation, editing, and copy editing within a wide range of print and digital communications vehicles.
  • Professional maturity, including strong interpersonal skills, tact, and discretion.
  • Experience in effectively managing budgets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office365, including SharePoint.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and evenings to get the job done.

You can set yourself apart from other candidates if you have:

  • A competent understanding of the defence and security industry is an asset.
  • Experience in managing consultants and service providers would be an asset.
  • An ability to communicate in both official languages.
  • Some knowledge of – or experience with – the defence, security, and cyber security industries, the Canadian government, or the Canadian military.
     

Compensation

The position is full-time for a three-year term. The compensation package – including a competitive salary, vacation, and comprehensive benefits package – will be discussed during the initial interview. CADSI’s benefits package includes group insurance, health, dental and vision care, a health and wellness credit, and regular opportunities for professional development.
 

Your Working Environment

You will work in a newly renovated, open-concept and climate-controlled office environment in downtown Ottawa. We have flexible hours that combine in-office and remote-based work, depending on our event production timetable and other projects. Your adjustable standing desk, ergonomic chair, and laptop are ready for you.

Overtime, particularly in producing CANSEC, and local travel may be required on occasion.

Regular team-building activities keep us energized and learning from each other away from the office.
