Canadian Drone Innovation Takes Flight with Conductive Paint Technology
Burlington, ON, [October, 24, 2025] — Small drones are increasingly becoming a critical tool in military and law enforcement operations across Canada and the United States. Their appeal lies in versatility, low operating cost, and expendability compared to traditional manned aerial vehicles. On the global stage, statistics from the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine suggest that drones are responsible for up to 70% of all recorded casualties, according to a September 2025 Globe and Mail opinion piece by Elisabeth Gosselin-Malo.
In North America, drones are also proving invaluable in domestic applications such as photographing crime scenes and assisting in missing persons cases, where rapid aerial deployment can save time and lives.
One Canadian drone manufacturer is taking innovation a step further by integrating conductive paint technology into its vehicle designs. Conductive paints provide several critical functions, foremost among them electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection. In mission-critical situations, any interruption in communications between operator/ground control station and drone could compromise success or result in a crash.
Conductive paints are well-suited to these challenges. Engineered for excellent adhesion to plastics commonly used in drone bodies, conductive paints form a conformal, lightweight shield that effectively protects against EMI while avoiding the added weight of solid metal housings.
In addition to shielding, conductive paints also provide corrosion protection for drones designed with metal components, such as heavy-duty frames used in military and industrial platforms to carry larger payloads. By combining EMI shielding with protective coatings, manufacturers are enhancing drone reliability across both defence and civilian markets.
