Canadian Naval operations during the Persian Gulf War 1990-91

Event Description

This is the first presentation of 2026 with our own President VAdm Duncan "Dusty" Miller". The presentation will be hybrid with an in-person and virtual component on MS Teams. It will be recorded. 

It is scheduled at 1300 hrs to 1500 hrs, Wednesday, 18 February 2026 at the Naval Museum of Halifax in the Admiralty House at Stadacona. There are spaces for 35 seats for the in-person presentation. Currently, 29 seats are taken but there will be a virtual component and there are many spaces available.

The presentation will give a brief synopsis of the Navy’s preparations and contribution to the Gulf War, the lessons which modernized the Navy post War years and the events for the 35 th anniversary in November including the republishing of the book Sharon Hobson and I wrote to document the Navy ‘s role, performance and success in the War. His picture and biography follow below.

Biography

Vice Admiral Duncan ‘Dusty ‘ Miller CMM MSC CD ( Ret’d)

Vice Admiral Miller retired from the Royal Canadian Navy in 2003 after serving thirty-eight years. A highlight in his career was leading the Canadian Naval Task Group into the 1990-91 Persian Gulf War and through minefields and missile attacks brought all 3000 home. After retirement he ran a bed and breakfast with his wife Ann. He also became the Chair of the largest security company in Canada- Commissionaires and was Chair of the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust looking after HMCS SACKVILLE. He has been a performer in a multiple number of musical groups and productions thoroughly enjoying retirement and became President of the Royal United Services Institute Nova Scotia in 2022. He lives on the waterfront in Halifax overlooking the harbour.
