CADSI News Release on Government Response to AG Report

Today’s discussion around the F-35 project underscores three core issues for Canada when it comes to defence spending: the Canadian military needs equipment to be able to respond to the role that is asked of it by Canadians through their duly elected national government; Canadians need to have confidence in the fairness, openness and predictability of the government’s decision making processes; and, spending on the military should produce the complementary outcomes of kit for the military and a maximum of jobs, innovation, export opportunities and economic activity for Canadians.

CADSI believes that the Government’s response to the Auditor General’s review of the Joint Strike Fighter project is measured and appropriate and will, in the fullness of time, respond to the key issues above.

CADSI and its 880 members look forward to learning the details of the role of the proposed new Secretariat at Public Works and Government Services Canada for managing Canada’s selection of the replacement for its aging F-18 fleet. We are also interested to learn what role this new management structure may be expected to play, in the future, on other defence procurements included in the Canada First Defence Strategy.
